Hi, my name is Dyann, founder of Grace & Grit Press.
Like for many others, my life took some unexpected turns. I grew up in church, sang in the choir, taught Sunday school, married a Christian, did all the right things. I thought my life was going to be a happily ever after story.
Fast forward to the day after my 25th wedding anniversary, sitting in the attorney's office, drawing up divorce papers, feeling like my life was over. I felt like a failure because I wasn't able to keep my marriage together. But there was also a huge sense of relief: no more games, no more being nice to people who were terrible to me, and most of all, no more pretending to be who I wasn't. Grace & Grit Press was conceived in pain, born in the fierce determination to find beauty in the ashes, and grown in grace - the grace I found when I went looking for God in my pain.
Grit represents the struggle, the roughness of that season, and life in general. The continual choice to move through the hurt, instead of avoiding it; to become better instead of bitter. Grace represents understanding. It is the relief you feel when you discover that you don't have to be perfect to deserve love, and you don't need to do anything special to earn it. Grace is realizing that in God's eyes, we are enough just as we are, and everyone is welcome!
To create a space where stories tenderly explore the complexities of faith, pain, and belonging, reminding every reader that, no matter what, they are loved.
Our mission is to tell beautifully honest stories of characters wrestling with life and faith, so that those who have been hurt by people or churches might see that God's love remains, unwavering and unconditional.
